Richard and Jo Price warmly welcome you to this website about our house in the country just south of Cahors in the Lot, an unspoilt part of south west France known for its spectacular scenery and medieval history, its wine, and much more.
“House was just perfect for our family, great pool and beautiful surrounding countryside. House was very thoughtfully equipped.” L.M. (Cornwall)
The house is a pretty and characterful 19th Century Quercy styled house clad in Virginia Creeper, the house is in a tranquil and rural location in an unspoilt part of France.
Families of all ages will enjoy spending day after day in the wonderful private, heated and enclosed swimming pool, terraced area, and extensive gardens; one safely enclosed and the other a great place for hide and seek or a game of rounders or football! There are quiet corners for relaxation, and a well-equipped children's play area too, so everyone can relax and enjoy their well-earned family holiday.
If you have children we have gone the extra mile to make your stay as stress-free and entertaining as possible. Every piece of baby and toddler equipment you could think of is there… right down to the baby nail scissors. There are many and varied toys and games for outdoors and inside, including a large supply of dressing up clothes. Your children will never be bored, ensuring that your holiday will be a relaxed and chilled one.
All you need to bring are your clothes and a swimming costume, making a fly drive holiday easy! Pets can come too.
Oscar the Owl. Oscar lives at the house and sends all young visitors a few emails before they arrive which include story podcasts to download and listen to on the journey. He also sends through the post a Kit Bag to each child containing activity sheets, colouring pencils, luggage tags and a holiday diary. This will not only relieve the boredom and stress of the journey but the activities will help your children to really appreciate where they are in the world and what they are doing on their holiday; making it one to remember. When you arrive at the house Oscar will be waiting with a letter for the children. He likes to be taken out with you on your visits and have his photo taken. These photos can be sent to us and entered in to a competition at the end of the year. Here is a snippet from the children's pack…
“We have tried to make the house as interesting as possible with as much entertainment as possible for you. There are loads of games for all ages, DVDs, Freesat TV, outdoor stuff and pool toys. But in case that is not enough and your parents insist on taking you out to see stuff and experience the "real France", then here are some things that may help you enjoy it.
If on the other hand you are the ones that are desperate to get out and you cannot drag the parents away from the pool, then show them the activity booklet and tell them you want to go and visit the places in there. Parents usually need a bit of bribing so if you agree to stop off at the odd vineyard for wine tasting they may be easier to persuade!”
The house is situated on the edge of a tiny hamlet, Laval, far away from any busy roads with lovely views of the surrounding countryside on the plateau of the Causse de Limogne. Laval is 5km from the nearest village, Lalbenque, and about 20 minutes from Cahors.
The plateau lies between the Rivers Lot and Aveyron, making both easily accessible. The rivers cut through limestone, forming spectacular cliff scenery. Numerous villages cling to the cliffs. St Cirq Lapopie (top right), close by on the Lot, is one of these and regarded by many as one of the prettiest villages in France.
